The Crusaders Project was born from a shared devotion to groove, soul, and the unmistakable sound that shaped a generation. Based in Berlin, this collective of American musicians comes together to honor the enduring legacy of the 1960s and ’70s pioneers, The Jazz Crusaders—a band renowned for seamlessly blending hard bop, rhythm & blues, and early jazz-funk with both elegance and intensity.

Rather than functioning as a traditional cover band, the ensemble has, over the past decade, developed a distinctive voice of its own. Drawing from the Jazz Crusaders’ songbook, they craft original arrangements that reflect their individual musical identities and collective artistry. With more than 85 years of combined experience, the group brings depth, authenticity, and a refined perspective to the repertoire. In addition to reimagined classics, they present original compositions inspired by the spirit of the Crusaders, alongside thoughtfully arranged works by other notable jazz composers.

Featuring Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq on tenor saxophone, Kelvin Sholar on piano, Geoffroy De Masure on trombone, Charles Sammons on bass, and Kenny Martin on drums, the ensemble embodies this rich tradition with both reverence and vitality. Their sound flows effortlessly from soulful lyricism to driving grooves, from intimate ballads to dynamic rhythmic interplay—capturing a musical language that is at once timeless and vividly present.
